Engage With Your OAHI

j_hansen_2019_ep_0315_rev_crop.pngThe past few months have been a bizarre, overwhelming, and very emotional time for all of us during the pandemic. As always, your OAHI is here for you; advocating for you as essential workers, working on safety protocols, and keeping you informed during this unprecedented time.

Your membership with the Ontario Association of Home Inspectors is important, as together we present a strong, united voice for advocacy, purchasing power and best practices. Membership renewals are due July 1; thank you to those of you who have renewed.

For the public— especially homebuyers— your membership in the OAHI reflects your credibility, work ethic and commitment to the home inspection industry.

We are working to establishing online meeting groups to keep you connected.

Our Membership Committee is adding more partners to the Members Perks Plus program (MPP), to pass along discounted pricing on business needs to you.  Details about access to discounts with Mark’s Commercial and Staples’ print and marketing services are available from the OAHI registrar (oahi@oahi.com). Taking advantage of member discounts can save you as much as our membership fees – or more!

You must be a current member in good standing to take advantage of these MPP offers.

On another note, I would like to remind all members that it is only OAHI, R.H.I. members that are given the exclusive right to use the designation of R.H.I.- (Registered Home Inspector) by Bill Pr158 of 1994. Wear it proudly!

Let’s continue building the OAHI into the biggest and best association of home inspectors in Canada.

As always, if I can help you please just let me know; we are all in this together!

Kind and Warm Regards,

John Hansen, R.H.I.

Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI)

Dear OAHI Member Home Inspector,

As the events surrounding the spread of the COVID-19 / 2019 novel coronavirus unfold rapidly, OAHI is suspending all group events, training sessions and regional meeting groups effective immediately. It is out of an abundance of caution that we suspend these activities until further notice, and we are looking into options for remote attendance where possible.

We are fortunate to work in a profession where we can limit close contact with people, however; we come into close contact with the most susceptible surfaces in homes, such as plumbing fixtures, door handles and light switches. The coronavirus can survive in the air for up to three hours, and on various metal and glass surfaces for anywhere from three to 24 hours.

t_rando_safety_1105.jpgPlease take precautions on the job to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, including:

  • Add the following items to your toolbox: hand soap, hand sanitizer, clean hand towels, Lysol spray, Clorox disinfecting wipes, latex gloves, masks
  • Wear clean latex gloves during the inspection
  • Do not touch your face
  • Provide masks for people who are unwell
  • Avoid group functions, office presentations
  • Do not shake hands, avoid personal contact
  • Keep your gear clean – use Clorox wipes or Lysol spray (or other disinfectant that has been proven to kill the virus)
  • Wash your hands frequently
  • If you need to cough or sneeze, do so into a tissue or sleeve
  • Have the Realtor confirm if any resident in the home has been unwell
  • Ask clients to stay home if they are unwell; review the inspection by phone.

Additional Information regarding prevention from Public Health Ontario and the Government of Canada.

Thank you,

Ontario Association of Home Inspectors
