What Were They Thinking Photos
Slowly but surely we are emerging from the trials and tribulations of the global pandemic. To the frontline workers and leaders who have seen the devastation and helped to mitigate it thank you.
For many people Aug. 1. represents a summer long weekend a.k.a, Simcoe Day, but according to the Ontario Heritage Trust it means so much more: “Emancipation Day commemorates the Abolition of Slavery Act, which became law on August 1, 1834. This act freed more than 800,000 people of African descent throughout the British Empire. Since then, Emancipation Day has been celebrated on or near August 1 each year. It is an important expression of identity for the Black community, and a reminder of the continuing struggle faced by people of African descent towards a more inclusive, diverse society.”
The first Monday in August is known by several names across Canada and throughout Ontario. More information is in the Simcoe Day link above— John Graves Simcoe was Upper Canada’s first lieutenant governor. However you celebrate the long weeked, be safe.
If there is anything the OAHI can do to help you get your business back on track on the economy re-opens, let me know.

BUILD YOUR BUSINESS TIP: PROFILE PICTURES
Maximize the “Find a Home Inspector” function on the OAHI website by ensuring your profile shines.
Now is a good time to update your OAHI member profile. In this business, people do business with people not just logos. So during these bright days of summer, update your headshot for your OAHI profile page. Blurry and outdated photos do not present a professional image. Advertising guru and broadcaster Terry O’Reilly discusses why Realtors use headshots in their marketing.
Avoid selfies: have someone in your household take your photo. You can also use a tripod or set up your camera on a stable surface and use the self-timer function.
Try to use natural light, go outside, you’ll be more relaxed, but avoid taking photos at noon–the shadows are too harsh. Here are some tips.
While you are updating your photo, update your OAHI status, list of skills, areas served, make sure the listed phone number is valid. Have someone review the text in your profile for accuracy and readability.
If you need help with your profile, contact the office: email@example.com.
Just a friendly reminder that your membership was up for renewal as of, July 1, 2020. If you have already renewed, thank you.
When renewing your membership, please take a minute to review your company information.
From the “edit profile “tab (upper right) personal, company and contact information can be edited, this is what potential clients see on a oahi.com members search. Other documents such as certificates and transcripts can be entered by clicking the My Membership tab on main member’s page, scrolling to the bottom of the “check list” and browsing for documents to upload. Unfortunately, the system does not notify the office once documents have been uploaded. Kindly send a quick email notifying the office of the documents uploaded to your page, firstname.lastname@example.org. Please contact the office for help.
If you would like to review some of the members’ perks that the Membership Committee has negotiated for you, please visit the Members Perks Plus Program page to find out what savings are to be had for all OAHI members in good standing.
Let’s continue to build the OAHI into the biggest and best association of home inspectors in Canada.
We thank you for your continued contribution with the association and look forward to another year!
Thank you in advance,
